In October 2007, personalities from all over the world under the leadership of the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, were brought together in Geneva joining forces in order to establish the “Global Humanitarian Forum” (G.H.F.).

The Global Humanitarian Forum is a non governmental organisation, open to cross-cultural, cross-sectoral and pan-regional ideas and initiatives. The new Acropolis Museum

The new Acropolis Museum is a fact! It sits near the base of the Acropolis with a direct view of the Parthenon and is one of the highest-profile cultural projects undertaken in Europe in this decade.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Koichiro Matsuura, accompanied by the Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis.

The new facility, 25.000 square meters of glass and concrete, with exhibition space of over 14.000 square meters, designed by the New York-based architect Bernard Tschumi, replaces the old Acropolis Museum, a 1874 building at the rock of the Acropolis next to the Parthenon.

International Conference “Climate Change and Challenges for the Future Generations”

The impacts of climate change as a challenge for the future generations with particular emphasis on the most sensitive and vulnerable population groups of the Mediterranean countries, especially sick children, is the topic of the two-day International Conference that will take place in Athens, at Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall, on June 2nd and 3rd 2009.

The Conference was organised with the initiative of the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and President of the “Foundation for the Child and Family”, Mrs Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, and the Chairman of the “Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change” (Nobel Peace Prize 2007) and the Director-General of “The Energy and Resources Institute”
