Student Painting Contest 2016

For the second year in a row, the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation organized an event in honour of the students who distinguished themselves in the 2016 Painting Competition sponsored by the Children’s Gallery of Greece, whose theme was “Christmas.”

On 22 January 2017, 49 young artists participated in the event which took place at the NJV ATHENS PLAZA Hotel, all primary school students, along with their parents, many of their teachers, as well as art workshop representatives. They gathered in Athens from various parts of our country, including Thessaloniki, Crete, Euboea, Rhodes, Amphiali, Larissa, Andravida, Paros, Serres, Farsala,

The President’s Action

Acknowledging her social work, UNESCO appointed Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis as Goodwill Ambassador, in a ceremony held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, in 1999. Since then, she participates in the Annual Meetings of the Goodwill Ambassadors and in many events and programs organised by UNESCO, contributing to issues of social, humanitarian, educational and cultural value, especially the promotion of peace, the protection of children’s rights, the protection of the world cultural, natural and intangible heritage, education for all and of the dialogue among civilizations. She empowers these actions with activities of her Foundation as well as with her mission as board member in prestigious charitable foundations.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina a wonder of the modern world

The Library of Alexandria that has been dominating the city of Alexander the Great and Konstantinos Kavafis since October 2002, constitutes one of the greatest lighthouses of culture and knowledge in the world as well as one of the greatest centres of dialogue among populations, honouring its founders and above all the spirit of the Ancient Greek Culture.

The modern Library of Alexandria is not simply a state of the art, rich in books and electronic files library, but also an integral and hyperactive cultural organisation! It already includes three museums, four exhibition centres, seven research institutes, a planetarium and a laboratory for the children’s acquaintance with art and science.

Professor David Khayat’s Lecture in Cyprus

Internationally renowned Professor of Oncology, David Khayat, founder of the Paris Charter Against Cancer, arrived in Cyprus on 25 October 2016, where he gave a lecture with the subject: “National Strategy against cancer: The French experience.”

The lecture was made possible because of the initiative of the First Lady of the Republic of Cyprus, Andri Anastasiades, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Cyprus and the Medical School of the University of Cyprus.

Student’s Painting Contest 2015

On 7 March 2016, The Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation organized a small party at the NJV ATHENS PLAZA Hotel in Syntagma Square in honour of the students that participated in the 2015 Painting Competition held by the Children’s Gallery of Greece

Forty-four young artists, all primary school students, along with their parents and numerous teachers, came to the event from different parts of our country, from Thessaloniki, Larissa, Trikala, Volos, Amaliada, Levadeia, as well as different regions of Athens such as Galatsi, Perama, Chalandri, and Holargos.

The Foundation for the Child and the Family

In 1997, Mrs. Vardinoyannis founded the “Foundation for the Child and the Family” for the protection of children’s rights and the building of a better future for the children of the world. The Foundation is a Non Governmental Organisation (N.G.O.) with a Special Consultative Status at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations Organisation.  In 2012, the Foundation was renamed as “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation” in order to expand its activities in accordance with timely humanitarian and social issues that affect not only childhood but society in general.

Opening of the Bone Marrow Donor Bank “Orama Elpidas”

On the 20th of March 2014, at the Children’s Oncology Unit “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA”, the official opening of the Bone Marrow Donor Bank “ORAMA ELPIDAS” was held in the presence of representatives of the Church, the State, the diplomatic world, the scientific community, members of the Association of Friends of Children with cancer “ELPIDA”, friends and supporters of the Association.
