VISIT TO THE LYREIO CHILDREN’S INSTITUTION

Through a highly symbolic visit on Tuesday 21 August to the Lyreio Children’s Institution, which was completely destroyed by the recent deadly fires in Eastern Attica, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis confirmed her personal commitment, as well as that of her family, to support, in every possible way, the victims and the areas devastated by fire.

On her visit, Mrs Vardinoyannis was accompanied by the wife of the President of the Republic, Mrs. Sissy Pavlopoulou, who also showed, from the very first moment, her interest in restoring the damage suffered by the Lyreio Institution.

“1st MARIANNA V. VARDINOYANNIS CULTURAL AWARDS” BY THE MUNICIPALITY OF ERMIONIDA

MARIANNA V. VARDINOYANNIS JOINS “THE HELLENIC INITIATIVE”

The Hellenic Initiative is pleased to announce that Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis has joined the organization’s Board of Directors serving also on its Executive Committee. The longstanding commitment of Mrs. Vardinoyannis to enhance and change the lives of those in need through the “ELPIDA” Association of Friends of Children with cancer and through the Bone Marrow Donor Registry “ORAMA ELPIDAS”, presents a profoundly inspiring initiative, demonstrating that through determination and power of will there are no limits to what philanthropy can achieve.

One of the primary commitments of THI has always been crisis relief, primarily when the adverse effects of the crisis disproportionately target children.

“GREECE IN THE MODERN WORLD”

The meaning of our national identity and the challenges Greek society faces inside a complex international environment were the topics of reflection of the important thinkers, academics but also athletes who took part in the one-day Conference called “Greece in the Modern World: National Identity and the Challenges of the 21st Century”, organised by the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation in cooperation with the Panhellenic Women’s Organisation “Panathinaiki”, under the auspices of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, on Thursday 21 June, at the Amphitheatre of the Acropolis Museum.

6th PANARSAKEIAKO CONGRESS ON HUMAN RIGHTS

On Thursday 19 April, in the presence of 935 pupils and 200 teachers from 17 Arsakeia Schools and 10 other schools from other parts of Greece, the 6th Panarsakeiako Student Congress opened its proceedings, with the title: “In a changing world: the right to education and the teaching of human rights.”

The Conference was declared open by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Mrs Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, who stood beside the pupils, spoke with them and was informed in detail about the proceedings of the Congress.

Marianna V. Vardinoyannis was awarded the “Order of friendship of Azerbaijan”

On Thursday, 15 March 2018, within the framework of the visit she carried out to Azerbaijan on the occasion of her participation in the work of the VI Baku Forum, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Marianna V. Vardinoyannis received two international distinctions of major importance.

In recognition of Mrs. Vardinoyannis’ contribution to the creation of friendly relations between Greece and Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev awarded her the “Order of friendship of Azerbaijan” which is the highest honour of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is awarded to heads of state and prominent personalities from around the world.

International Women’s Day 2018

A special event with an international air, attended by women ambassadors and ambassadors’ spouses from 36 countries of the world and another 200 successful and active women from Greece and abroad, was held by the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation on  8 March 2018,  to celebrate the International Women’s Day.

The event aimed to highlight the achievements of great women who made history, as well as the importance of the universal and complex role of every woman in modern society. The honoured guest at the event was Sissy Pavlopoulou, spouse of the President of the Hellenic Republic, who was presented with an award by the host,

Award presentation to Marianna V. Vardinoyannis on the 18th anniversary of the Charter of Paris Against Cancer

The 18th anniversary of the Charter of Paris Against Cancer was celebrated under the auspices of UNESCO on 5 February 2018 – one day after World Cancer Day – at Versailles, Paris, where the Charter Awards were also presented. The awards were given to individuals and organisations whose work supports research in the fight against cancer and which provide aid to strengthen hospital and social infrastructure to improve patients’ qualify of life.

Students’ painting contest 2017

The awards ceremony for the winners of the students’ painting contest 2017, organised by the “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation” and the Children’s Gallery of Greece, took place on 22 January 2018 at the NJV ATHENS PLAZA hotel.

The event was attended by 60 young artists – all primary school students – whose work stood out in the competition, along with their parents and many teachers, who came to Athens from various corners of our beautiful homeland, such as Thessaloniki, Crete, Euboea, Rhodes, Amfilochia, Kilkis, Larissa, Andravida, Leipsoi, Xanthi, Patras, Argos, Corinth, etc., as well as from different regions of Attica,

Academy of Athens honours “ELPIDA” Association

The Academy of Athens presented its annual awards for 2017 during a celebratory event held 21 December 2017 at the Academy’s ceremonial hall.

The “ELPIDA”Association of Friends of Children with Cancer was awarded a Gold Medal, the Academy of Athens’ highest honour, for its “active and steadily growing charitable work”.

The founder and president of the Association, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, was there to receive the Academy’s Gold Medal, presented by Academy of Athens President, Loukas Papademos, before an audience of academics and guests at the grand event.
