Prominent personalities were present in the World Economic Forum held in Davos, on the 25th till the 29th of January 2006, such as the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr Kofi Annan, governmental and non-governmental officials, businessmen, as well as Nobel Peace Prize laureates, writers and artists recruited in the fight for the human rights protection – the actress Angelina Jolie, UN Goodwill Ambassador, the musician Bono, who is actively involved in the fight against poverty in Africa, and others.

The aim of the Forum was to put forward the big issues – financial and social that concern our planet, to assess the new data and trends present in the global economy, to express different views and form new politics aiming at the development of the third world countries as well as to provide financial help.

Within this context, H.E. Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, President of “The Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement”, put forward the great problem of trafficking in a special event organised at the World Economic Forum, and she presented the “Athens Principles” code which was conducted at the Athens Round Table of the Business Community against Human Trafficking. The aim of this presentation was to inform and mobilize the businessmen attending the Forum to sign the principles and join the “End Human Trafficking Now” global campaign of the Movement.

Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis was among the Board Members of the Movement who travelled in Davos accompanying Mrs. Mubarak. Also, the Board Members Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Dr. Aleya Hammad, Amb. Leila Emara, Mr. Walid Shash and others, as well as businessmen like Dr. Hamza Al Kholi, Mr. Shafic Gabr, Mr. David Arkless, Mr. Khalid A. Alireza, Mr. Khalid Janahi, and others, the Secretary General of ILO, Mr. Juan Somavia, the Director of Communication of ILO, Mrs. Zohreh Tabatabai, the writer of the book “Illicit”, Mr. Moises Naim, the Co-Founder and former CEO of the “Vital Voices” Mrs. Melanie Verveer, attended the event.
