The Charter of Paris against cancer was signed in February 2000 aiming at the promotion of the research for curing as well as preventing the disease, upgrading the provided services to the patients, the sensitisation of the common opinion and the mobilisation of the global community against cancer.

In February 2007, the 7th Anniversary of the Charter of Paris against cancer was celebrated in Paris with the annual fundraising gala at the Palace of Versailles, under the auspices of the President of the French Republic, Mr Jacques Chirac.

The event aimed to support the “Association for Life and Hope against Cancer” (Association pour la Vie- Espoir contre le Cancer, AVEC).

The host of the evening was the oncology Professor, Mr. David Khayat, founder of the Paris Charter as well as President and founder of AVEC.

The President of the “Foundation for the Child and the Family”, Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, attended the event and supported it as member of the Honorary Committee. Mrs. Vardinoyannis is well-know in the field of children cancer internationally for her work as President of ELPIDA Association.

Other members of the Honorary Committee of the event were: the former Prime Minister of France, Mr de Villepin with his wife, as well as members of the former French government, the Minister of Health, Mr Bertrand Xavier, the Foreign Minister and current French President, Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, and the current Minister of Finance, Mrs. Christine Lagarde.

Further participations in the Honorary Committee were: Princess Beatrice de Bourbon des deux Siciles, Princess Isabelle of Liechtenstein, Princess Nesrine Tousson of Egypt, Prince and Princess Ferdinard Von Bismarck, Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia, the Count and Countess of Paris, Mrs. Anne-Aymone Giscard d’ Estaing, Sir John and Lady Holmes, Mr. Olivier Dassault, and others. Mrs. Lily Safra was the sponsor of the event.
