The Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation considers the education of children as the most important, after health, prerequisite for the prosperity and progress of the new generation, the creation of a society of worthy citizens and the building of a culture of peace; to this end it has included in the core of its activities the “Support Schools” programme.
The purpose of the Programme is to offer logistical support to school communities and to provide students with more supplies to help them meet their educational needs.
In this context, it offers books and school supplies to schools, as well as audiovisual hardware such as computers, laptops, printers, projectors, interactive boards, DVD players, TV sets, etc.
It also helps cover shortages in schools, for example the shortage of heating oil for classrooms or air conditioners, in certain cases even the shortage of food for students belonging to vulnerable social groups.
To date, the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation has supported schools in Athens, Volos, Ermioni, Kranidi, Kozani, Mytilini, Piraeus, Crete, etc.
It has created or supports libraries in remote areas and islands, for example in Fournoi, Ikaria, in Prespes, in villages of Xanthi, such as Myki, Genisea and Diomidia.
It has supported students in areas that have suffered natural disasters, such as Makistos, in Ilia, as well as Ano Liossia, where it founded the Nursery School of Agios Nikolaos.
It cooperates with many agencies and supports their programmes, such as the Symplefsis NGO, for the support of schools on Aegean islands, such as Patmos, Kasos, Kimolos and Schinousa.
Its support for athletic education was manifested by the creation of the Closed Gymnasium”Georgios & Evaggelia Bournaki” in Ermioni, Argolida, the support of Special Olympics Hellas, the cooperation with the Olympic Academy of Greece, etc.
It further supports the creativity of the children with drawing contests, by sending educational toys, by awarding prizes to children that with their courage, will and strength become example for their peers, etc.
In 2014 the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation cooperated with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which organised a spectacular performance of Azeri music and dance in the Odeon of Herodes Atticus Theatre in September, in the presence of the First Lady of Azerbaijan, Ms. Μehriban Aliyeva, the revenues of which went to the “Support Schools” Programme.
