The presentation of the Proceedings of the European Forum Family-Europe-21st century: Vision and Institutions which was organized by the Foundation for the Child and the Family, in Athens in May 1998, under the auspices of the President of Democracy, the Council of Europe, UNESCO, and the support of European Committee, took place at the Megaron-The Athens Concert Hall on the 14th of December 1998.
The precious material of knowledge, opinions and proposals deposited by scientists, researchers, representatives of governmental and non governmental European organizations as well as observers from all over the world, during the Forums work, was presented and commented on by Professor Neoklis Sarris, President of the Department of Sociology of the Panteion University.
This publication, work and offer of Livanis Publishing Organisation aims at being used as an important tool and point of reference for all those, experts or not, who dream of a human and decent society for the Family of the 21st century.
As the President of the Foundation for the Child and the Family, Mrs Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, pointed out in her speech, the publication of the Proceedings of the European Forum constitutes a first point in the Foundations effort to sensitise the common opinion and mobilise the academic world as well as the state for these important and essential problems of the family. As Mrs Vardinoyannis stressed: Nobody should forget that the family is the pillar of the present and the child is the only guarantee of the future. We believe that the contents of the Proceedings of the Forum could and should constitute a point of reference report as well as a precious guide for the planning of every relevant initiative of any governmental or non governmental organisation, here or elsewhere. Moreover, the foreign publication expected by our European friends is about to follow; also, the proceedings of the Day-Conference on the relation of the Mass Media and Family will also follow shortly.
The Publisher, Mrs Giota Livani and the Editor, Mrs Ino Konstantopoulou also spoke of the beautiful volume of the publication of the Proceedings.
In the frame of the presentation, Mr Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Professor of Constitutional Law of the University of Athens and MP of State, analysed the institutional frame of the Family in our country; Mrs Ismini Androulidaki-Dimitriadi, Professor of Urban Law of the University of Athens, presented the new argument concerning the Family in the frame of Family Law; the Rector H?l?ne Glykatzi-Ahrweiler, President of the University of Europe, referred to prospects related with the short-term future.
The discussion was coordinated by Mrs Rodi Kratsa, President of the European Centre for Information and Communication.
The event was attended by Ministers, Heads of Political Parties, Members of Parliament, Academicians, University Professors, Presidents and Representatives of governmental and non governmental institutions, many speakers and researchers who participated in the European Forum, editors, journalists and many others.
