Τhe “Foundation for the Child and the Family” supports children in areas close to the borders of Greece, islands and other countryside areas.

On October 2nd 1997, Mrs. Vardinoyannis visited three villages of Xanthi prefecture, i.e. Genissea, Diomidia and Miki, which had been hit by floods. She visited the schools and she had the chance to speak with the teachers, the parents and the students, as well as with the heads of the local authorities of the villages. Mrs. Vardinoyannis gave presents to the children such as a T-shirt with the Foundation’s emblem and a dictionary of Greek language. She also arranged books, video material, computers and audiovisual systems to be sent to the schools for the enrichment of the libraries and the schools’ fascilities. In return, the students prepared beautiful events with music and theatrical performances.

The same year, Mrs. Vardinoyannis visited the Fourni village of Ikaria island, in order to inaugurate a library full of books offered by the Foundation to the school of Fourni. For that year, Fourni had the highest birth rate in Greece in comparison to its population, and for this reason the Foundation decided to support it. Mrs. Vardinoyannis was accompanied by the representative of UNESCO, Mr. John Bennett, by the Director of the “Fondation pour l’Enfance” Mrs. Marie-Paule Poilpot and by Mrs. Rodi Kratsas.
